Summer Reading
As mentioned in the letter you should have recieved, our class will actually be during the spring semester; however, I would strongly advise against waiting until December break to do all of this assignment because that will simply ruin your holiday break. This assignment encompasses quite a bit, and it would work best if you did as much as you could now, before school begins in August, and then use the time over Christmas break to really review your journals and notes. You may divide the assignment up if you like, but be sure you have everything done before the spring semester begins.
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns. Thank you.

Dialectic Journal Examples
Please go to http://www.pkwy.k12.mo.us/west/teachers/gerding/djs.pdf for an example of this type of journal. Another nice example can be found at http://www.lynchclay.k12.oh.us/Downloads/Guidelines%20for%20the%20Dialectical%20Journal.pdf.

Just a helpful document...
The file below is NOT an activity you must do for your summer reading assignment, but I am making it available to you because you may find it helpful when you are reading the How to Read Literature... text. I would suggest reading over this document to see some ways you could think about the points Dr. Foster makes in each chapter. Again, you DO NOT need to do these activities; they may simply be helpful ideas.
