Analysis TechniquesAs you work to analyze poetry, you will find it helpful to use devices such as TP-CASTT (or TP-FASTT according to some). Please review the file below for an example of this device.
"Goblin Market" - C. RosettiFor an online text to which you can also listen, go to http://content.loudlit.org/audio/goblin/pages/01_01_goblin.htm . You can also go to http://www.victorianweb.org/authors/crossetti/gobmarket.html for a wonderful version with illustrations.
"My Last Duchess" - R. BrowningPlease go to http://rpo.library.utoronto.ca/poem/288.html for a full-text; be sure to also read the commentary.

Example of TPCASTTFor a very nice example of this analysis technique, please go to http://skyview.vansd.org/bquestad/Poetry/tpcastt/poemanalysis.htm and consider the depth of this analysis. Although this analysis tool is supposed to be a helpful tool to quickly consider a poem's structure, meaning, theme, etc., you should still spend quality time using the tool. In other words, quality responses should exhibit a depth similar to the one you'll find here; therefore, you cannot do a quality response in 5 minutes.
Reading Assignment - 4/12/13Over the weekend, you will read poems which exemplify several forms; first, familiarize yourself with the elements of the form, then read the poems.
