My Education
I gradutated from South Stokes in 1994 and headed on to Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. I absolutely loved my time at Meredith, and I know that they really did prepare me well for my career as an educator. I graduted in '98 with a BA in English and with a license for middle school education.
If you think you might be interested in Meredith, come by to chat sometime. I'll gladly tell you all about it! GO ANGELS!

More Education
I spent the next 4 years teaching middle school language arts, first in Greensboro, then in Lexington. Then I decided I missed being a student, and, luckily, I was able to attend WFU to receive my MA in English. WIth this degree, I was able to add on to my license a certification to teach high school.
While at Wake, I had my daughters, though, so I decided not to go back to public schools and full-time teaching until they were a little older. In the interim, I taught as an adjunct professor in HPU's evening degree program before I joined the faculty at West Stokes High School in 2006 as an English teacher. I continued to teach a variety of English courses at West until January of 2013 when I left my classroom to take on the role of an instructional coach for two middle schools in our county. Go DEACS!

Another Transition
A few years back, I began another phase of my journey by enrolling in ASU's Masters of School Administration certification program, and in December of 2014, I completed that program. In November of 2014, I returned to West Stokes High School as one of the assistant principals.
After 3 1/2 years as an assistant principal at West Stokes, I began another phase of my journey as the principal of Mt. Olive Elementary School, in King, NC, where I grew up. I have fond memories of my own experiences as a student in this building, long ago when it was King Intermediate School, and my own children were blessed to attend Mt. Olive, where they had amazing teachers who truly care for their students. It has been a privilege to lead this faculty and staff as we worked together with families and community members to provide the most supportive, encouraging educational experience we could.
After 2 1/2 wonderful years at MOES and with LOTS of prayerful reflection, I have decided that the best move for my family is to leave administration and go back to the classroom. Thankfully, there just happened to be a middle school ELA position that would be available for me -- so I am looking forward to getting back to my roots. My first four years of teaching were in the middle school. I am looking forward to becoming part of the Piney Grove Panther family!
